Kid Boys Gloves and Mittens

For over 75 years, Obermeyer has made kids' snow gear that keeps young riders warm, protected, and ready to charge harder and longer on the mountain.

Gloves and Mittens Built for How Boys Actually Ski

We built two options for a reason. The Kids' Thumbs Up Mitten and Kids' Thumbs Up Glove are built on the same Obermeyer standards, but they serve different riders. Mittens trap heat across all fingers in a single compartment, making them the warmer call for colder days and younger kids. Gloves give older, more active boys the finger independence they need for pole grip, buckles, and gear adjustments. Both stay put through moguls, chairlift rides, and the inevitable snowball fight at the base area.

Warmth That Doesn't Quit When the Temperature Does

Both the Kids' Thumbs Up Mitten and Kids' Thumbs Up Glove are made for kids who are actually skiing, not standing at the base waiting for a ride. Waterproof construction and insulated lining in each style keep cold air and moisture out while warmth stays in. The cuff design cinches securely over jacket sleeves, sealing the gap that lets cold sneak in. For younger boys gearing up on their own, the easy on/off construction means less fumbling and more time on snow.

Why Buy Kid Boys Gloves and Mittens from Obermeyer

  • Maximum warmth - the Kids' Thumbs Up Mitten traps shared finger heat for colder days and younger riders
  • Dexterity when it counts - the Kids' Thumbs Up Glove gives older boys the finger control they need for poles and gear
  • Sealed against the elements - waterproof construction in both styles keeps snow and moisture out all day
  • Sleeve-compatible cuffs - the Thumbs Up silhouette is designed to layer over jacket sleeves with no cold gaps
  • Built for full seasons - holds up through a full winter of hard daily use
  • Easy on/off for younger boys suiting up on their own at the base

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between kid boys gloves and mittens for skiing? +

Mittens keep hands warmer because fingers share heat in a single compartment, while gloves offer more dexterity for handling buckles and poles. For younger kids who prioritize warmth, the Kids' Thumbs Up Mitten is the better pick; older kids who need finger control will get more from the Kids' Thumbs Up Glove.

Are mittens or gloves better for kids in cold weather? +

Mittens tend to keep hands warmer than gloves in cold conditions because the trapped air between fingers adds insulation. The right choice depends on age and activity level, with mittens suiting younger children and gloves working better for kids managing their own gear.

What should I look for in waterproof gloves for boys? +

Prioritize a waterproof shell, a secure wrist closure to block snow entry, and proper insulation for the expected temperatures. Fit matters as much as materials, a glove that runs too loose loses heat and one that's too tight restricts circulation.

At what age can kids switch from mittens to gloves for skiing? +

Most kids are ready to move to gloves around ages 6 to 8, when they have the hand strength and coordination to actually use individual fingers. Obermeyer offers both the Kids' Thumbs Up Mitten and Kids' Thumbs Up Glove in overlapping size ranges, so you can match the right style to where your child is right now.
