For more than a decade, Colter Hinchliffe’s sleepy flat-3 has been a hallmark in the pro skier’s bag of tricks. In fact, Colter’s flat-3 landed him on the cover of Powder Magazine in an iconic snapshot that captured him lofting the stylish trick above Alta in Utah. Like his quintessential rotation, Colter’s path to Obermeyer spun full circle.

"This is a classic ski brand stepping into a new, fresh space.”

The lifelong Aspen local—Basalt, technically—is Obermeyer’s newest pro athlete and an instrumental figure in the design, research, and go-to-market strategies of the new Off Grid Collection. However, this isn’t Hinchliffe’s first tour of duty with Obermeyer. More than 30 years ago, before the ski magazine covers and starring roles in TGR films, Colter Hinchliffe was featured as a four-year-old ski model for a kids’ campaign with the brand.

“I was lucky enough to be involved in a photoshoot as a young kid,” remembers Hinchliffe. “My mom still has a picture of me from that campaign hanging in her house. This time, however, I am helping develop the product into my space in skiing—the freeride world. I think it’s so cool for a brand to have so many different facets to it. This is a classic ski brand stepping into a new, fresh space.”

In this season’s Teton Gravity Research film, Beyond the Fantasy, Hinchliffe’s playful approach to puckering terrain is on full display. Inspired and informed by Ajax’s terrain and the rugged backcountry that encircles Aspen, Hinchliffe’s skiing in the Austrian Alps for TGR is full of pop, joy, spirit, and energy. Hinchliffe made the Austrian Alps look like a playground!

“The terrain out there is twisted and epic, the snow while we were filming was great, and we got to ski some really sick stuff over there,” says Hinchliffe. “I spent the majority of my winter in Europe because it was snowing a lot over there, and it was one of my best winters ever traveling through the Alps and experiencing their ski culture.”
